This elegant skirt was designed by French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent and is likely from the s/s 1983 collection where a similar design was shown as part of the runway presentation (pictured). The label reads “Saint Laurent Rive Gauche”, a reference to Paris’s younger and trendier left bank. Cut to a high waist style, it has an A-line cut and is detailed with two pleats at the front and at the back. It fastens at the side of the waist with a hidden hook-and-eye clasp. It has in-seam pockets on the hips which add to the playful, casual feel. This skirt is unlined. These skirt styles were very popular towards the end of the 1970s and early 1980s and look very chic paired with jumpers and silk blouses.
A highly wearable skirt in excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note. Made in France, it is labelled a vintage French size 34, UK 6 or US 0-2 but please check the measurements as the waist is very small. It has no composition label and the fabric has no stretch.
